Sales and Sales Management jobs range from junior level positions as a trainee or as a graduate through to openings at middle management level such as a Regional Business Manager looking after Sales Executives or Territory Managers through to and National Sales Manager and Sales Director positions. Jobs in Sales and Sales Management are usually full time and occasionally interim roles for special projects or to provide temporary cover. Salaries will be dependent on experience.
Sales executives sell a company's products and services. Customers include individuals, businesses and government organisations and sales may be domestic (within the UK) or international, or a combination of both.
As well as approaching potential customers with the aim of winning new business; sales executives work to maintain good relationships with existing clients, gaining repeat business wherever possible.
The sales industry is target driven and as a consequence the work can sometimes be demanding and pressurised.
A sales manager plays a key role in the success and failure of an organization. He/She is the one who plays a pivotal role in achieving the sales targets and eventually generates revenue for the organization.
A sales manager must be very clear about his role in the organization. He should know what he is supposed to do at the workplace. A sales manager is responsible for meeting the sales targets of the organization through effective planning and budgeting.
A sales manager can’t work alone. He/She needs the support of his sales team where each one contributes in his best possible way and works towards the goals and objectives of the organization. He/She is the one who sets the targets for the sales executives and other sales representatives. A sales manager must ensure the targets are realistic and achievable. A Sales Manager/Sales Director must also develop and coach their team to achieve the desired organizational growth and achievement of targets and bonus. The roles are almost always incentivized by commission and bonuses based on successful achievement of objectives and targets.
